GOUICHI TANAKA
I like to stay curious about stuff. I enjoy understanding a little bit about a lot of things to keep a level head.
A general, broad sense of things helps me connect the dots across all of my human experiences which I find really fun and amusing.
Because in the end, I'm just trying to use my creativity and technical skills to design for the human experience - whether that involves store fixtures, retail spaces, lifestyle products, or household appliances.
My career path began as an industrial designer working at small consulting agency called Focus Product Design in Menlo Park, then did some freelancing when the company went under. I then shifted my emphasis to rapid prototyping and model-making as my skills and interests shifted towards making physical, tangible things with my own two hands. A short contract at Cosmo Lab in San Francisco turned into a workshop assistant at Google's Retail Experience Design team. I took a leap of faith to test the waters of Ventura, CA at Patagonia's headquarters as a material development technician for a year-long contract. I eventually returned to the Bay Area to the Google team again as a Design Prototyper and Shop Tech.
